Great moments in surfing history

How’s it going Raz SurfCampers, are you already back to school, uni or work? Cheer up! 🙂 We will always have next summer at Raz SurfCamp 🙂

As good fans of surfing and waves, today we want to review some of the moments that the history of surfing (and its surfers) has given us. Besides the ones we lived in every Raz season, of course. Those are the best waves and moments in history. 😛

Michael Peterson’s cutback in 1970. Why? His manoeuvre in the film “Morning of the Earth” became an epoch-making image. There was talk of a new kind of surfing: more radical, faster. The manoeuvre stood the test of time as a perfect combination of timing, power and personal style.

Martin Potter’s aerial. Although it is unclear who exactly invented the aerial, and many experimented with it before Potter, it was he who managed to land it with some style. Can you imagine discovering a new manoeuvre today? 😛

When talking about big things in surfing, Kelly Slater inevitably comes to the fore, how great he is! When he pulled off his legendary clown rodeo (a backside aerial) on a progression board, even he himself was impressed… In an interview with Surfline, the champion said that he had never seen this move before and that he thought he had invented it on that very wave… during a Pipeline Masters!

What is your favourite landmark in the history of surfing? What do you think will be the next one? 🙂
